TULSA — Bishop David Konderla hosted the annual Crosier Society Dinner last Thursday evening at Holy Family Cathedral to launch the 2027 Faith & Works appeal: "Together, Our Faith Goes Further." Prior to the dinner, members attended evening Mass celebrated by the bishop.
Society members heard informational presentations from Isaac Owen, Director of Development for the Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma; Sarah Jameson, Director of the Parish Support Team; Deacon Harrison Garlick on his role as Chancellor and in-house legal counsel, and a diocesan financial overview from Ryan McDaniel, Chief Financial Officer. Attendees also got a sneak peek of a new short film commissioned by the Diocese and created by local Catholic filmmaker Manny Marquez in which Bishop Konderla explains the work being done to spread the Gospel message throughout eastern Oklahoma. The film will be publicly released at a later date.
Owen, a native of Tahlequah, relocated back to Oklahoma last year with his family to assume the role of development director. The annual Faith & Works appeal is one of the primary funding mechanisms to support the work of the Diocese. The appeal will officially launch in January with the release of the Jan/Feb issue of
Eastern Oklahoma Catholic magazine.
"My wife and I have been so blessed to be back here in Tulsa, to be a part of a community that is deeply evangelistic and cares so much about their faith and are out there on the streets trying to get people to know and share the love of Christ," said Owen. "A lot of the work of the diocese, though, is happening behind the scenes. Pastors, parish staff, volunteers, they carry on the day-to-day work of the Church, but they don't do that alone. There are individuals from the diocese to support that mission by providing guidance, formation, and resources that help parishes work. Whether it's helping a parish navigate a complicated building project, supporting faith formation or Catholic schools, helping with financial and administrative tasks, or complicated legal situations — whatever that may be, the goal is always to help our parishes focus on what they do best."
In his closing remarks, Bishop Konderla made note of the numerous centennial celebrations that have taken place within the Diocese this year including St. John's Hospital, Monte Casino School, Cascia Hall Preparatory School, St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, and most recently St. Monica Church.
"So think about those Catholics in 1926. Man, those were some busy folks back then!" Bishop Konderla told the audience. "There was a lot going on, a lot being built! And that's what comes to my mind as I dismiss all of you. We're standing on the shoulders of those people who were doing amazing things with their lives, with their time, with their treasure one hundred years ago. We're doing that for the generation that follows us."
